Sony and Amazon have begun to remake the «God Of War» series, based on the hugely popular PlayStation game based on ancient mythology.
Showrunner Rafe Judkins and executive producers Hawke Ostby and Mark Fergus left the project after the first scripts were completed. At the same time, according to Deadline, the trio’s scripts received a «high score» from both Sony and Amazon — it seems that the studios simply decided to move in a slightly different direction.
A completely new team of writers is currently being hired for the project, while Judkins will continue to work with Amazon as a showrunner for «Wheel of Time» (his overall deal with Sony is not canceled either — he will simply focus on new developments)
For the first time about working on the «God Of War» series announced in December 2022 — the plot, according to the preliminary synopsis, was supposed to focus on the god of war Kratos, who, after the death of his wife, embarks on a dangerous journey with his son to scatter her ashes from the highest peak.
«Kratos soon realizes that the journey — is an epic adventure in disguise that will test the bond between father and son, and force Kratos to fight new gods and monsters for the fate of the world».
The God of War franchise was launched with the first game in 2005. Currently, the action-adventure series includes seven games created for four PlayStation consoles.
Cory Barlog — director of God of War 2018 and creative director of God of War Ragnarok — is still involved in the series as an executive producer. The rest of the team, as well as the cast, release date, and other details, remain unknown.
