«There is a new version of the script»: Jude Law gives update on «Sherlock Holmes 3» with Robert Downey Jr.

The third installment of the «Sherlock Holmes» franchise may finally see the light of day — 13 years have passed since the last movie.

«There is a new version of the script, but I haven’t read it yet. I also have questions: “How expensive will it be? And will we be able to film it?”» — Jude Law said in an interview with The Playlist.

«We have a great desire to make this movie and do it right — find the time, assemble the right team. The most valuable thing I got from working on the first two films is the friendship with Robert and his wife Susan, they mean a lot to me», the actor added.

According to him, the experience of working with Downey is unforgettable: «Robert brings an extraordinary energy to the set — it’s brilliant, fun and inspiring. I really miss that atmosphere. It was a great experience».

The project has been in development for ten years. During this time, not only the scriptwriters have changed, but Dexter Fletcher may take the director’s chair instead of Guy Ritchie, who directed the first two films in the franchise.

«Every day we discuss what the next version should be. Whenever I see Robert and Jude together, which happens several times a year, I want to bring these guys back to the screen. It’s real magic», — said producer Susan Downey in June.

Guy Ritchie himself confessed to Collider, which handed over control of the project to Robert Downey Jr:

«The ball is in his court — he is in charge of the scenario and the whole process. I’ve stepped aside until it’s time for me to participate».

The first two installments of the «Sherlock Holmes» franchise were released in 2009 and 2011. The films directed by Guy Ritchie have grossed over $1 billion at the global box office. Robert Downey Jr. played the eccentric detective Sherlock Holmes, and Jude Law played his friend and assistant Dr. Watson. In the first part, the detectives investigated the case of the black magician Lord Blackwood, who threatened to destroy the British Empire. In the sequel, the main antagonist is Professor Moriarty (Jared Harris), Holmes’ most dangerous enemy, whose criminal plans could have provoked a world war.
