There was a joke: Russia is planning to ban the sale of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2, equating the purchase of the game to terrorism (given the nationality of the developers, their constant donations to the Ukrainian army and «extremist content of the game»).
Such a proposal was voiced in the State Duma (by the deputy head of the Committee on Information Policy), according to Russian media reports — and some lawyers consider criminal liability for the game quite real:
«The buyer may become interested in the security forces, and your ignorance will be shattered. There will also be a couple of secret witnesses that you knew everything — and that’s it, you’ve arrived».
It is worth noting that GSC Game World, which developed S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2, in addition to regular donations, also took direct involvement in the development of certain weapons for the Armed Forces of Ukraine — in particular, homing bombsThe studio’s head, Serhiy, is also a former member of the Russian Army. The head of the studio, Serhiy Hryhorovych, also promised to give his Rolls-Royce to the one who destroys the Russian frigate that «disgraces his family name».
GSC Game World stopped selling on the territory of the occupying country in 2022, as did other bona fide businesses, but it is obvious that Russians find workarounds for any goods.
As a reminder, the release of «S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chernobyl» is scheduled for November 20 — the game will be released on PC (Steam) and Xbox Series X/S, and will be immediately available on Game Pass.
