Toyota is expanding its electric vehicle lineup, which is still lagging behind competitors, by announcing an all-new Urban Cruiser compact crossover that looks very similar to the Suzuki e-Vitara.
While the Toyota Urban Cruiser shares its underpinnings and much of its design with the e-Vitara, Toyota has given it a unique face with different headlights and distinctive taillights. The interior has also received some Toyota-specific elements, but the overall layout and features remain largely the same, including a 10.25-inch instrument panel and a 10.1-inch infotainment system screen.

Despite its compact dimensions, the Urban Cruiser has a fairly spacious interior, thanks in part to its generous 270-cm wheelbase. The rear seats have a sliding and reclining function. Toyota claims that the cabin can be as spacious as a mid-size crossover, which is a bold claim for a car that is only 429 cm long.

The Urban Cruiser will be available in both front-wheel and all-wheel drive, with three power options and two lithium-iron-phosphate battery options. The front-wheel drive models offer engines with 142 hp (106 kW) or 172 hp (128 kW), while the all-wheel drive version gets 182 hp (135 kW) of power from a twin-motor setup. Battery options include a 49 kWh unit (front-wheel drive only) and a 61 kWh unit (front-wheel and all-wheel drive). Toyota has not yet released official WLTP range data.

The Urban Cruiser includes features such as an energy-saving heat pump for the air conditioning and a manual battery preheat function to optimize efficiency, especially in cold climates.
The Urban Cruiser is scheduled to make its full debut at the 2025 Brussels Motor Show in January.
