In the third quarter of 2024, foreign companies providing electronic services in Ukraine declared more than UAH 3.1 billion in VAT liabilities, known as the «Google tax». The following is the «good news» said Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Finance, Taxation and Customs Policy Danylo Hetmantsev
Taking into account the amounts declared in the first two quarters, the state budget revenues from this tax for the first nine months of 2024 will amount to UAH 8.4 billion.
According to Mr. Hetmantsev, compared to the previous quarter, the declared VAT liabilities for digital services increased by more than 7%. He also said that in the third quarter, 7 new taxpayers declared their liabilities for this tax for the first time. Among them are well-known international companies such as Zoho Corp. (business software), Notion Labs (Android products), FX Replay (specialized software), and others.
«It is noteworthy that in addition to the permanent leaders in declaring VAT on digital services, Google, Apple, META platforms, Valve Corp, which declared and paid VAT of more than UAH 2.2 billion before the deadline, new companies – UpWork Global, Sony, Etsy – paid a substantial UAH 300 million», – said Danylo Hetmantsev.
He also noted that in the third quarter of 2024, Uber, Uklon, and Bolt declared VAT totaling UAH 89.4 million, which is UAH 20 million more than in the previous quarter.
Separately, Hetmantsev emphasized that OnlyFans and PornHub, which belong to the adult entertainment industry (although the production and distribution of such content is still prohibited by Ukrainian law), paid UAH 58.4 million in VAT in 2024.
