Turns out, the star of the future movie about “Captain America” Anthony Mackie did not know during the work on “Avengers: Endgame” that the fate of his character Sam Wilson would develop.
In an interview with Fandango (via Games Radar), Mackie recalled thinking his character would die at the end of the movie until his colleague, the former Captain America, Chris Evans advised him to read the script to the end:
“He says, ‘Dude, haven’t you read the new script?’. I replied ‘no’, and he: ‘Oh, then you don’t know…’, and he made me look at the last 10 pages,” the actor recounts.
From there, Anthony learned that Steve passes the shield to Sam, but still decided to clarify with Evans why:
“Because you’re damn Captain America!”, Chris exclaimed jokingly.
The movie “Captain America: The Brave New World” is set to debut in theaters in February 2025, and besides Mackie in the lead role, it also features Harrison Ford as the Red Hulk. Currently, Marvel is running an active marketing campaign, regularly releasing new trailers and clips, however, according to industry insiders, the film is not going as well as the studio would like.
Daniel Richtman, for example, noted that the new “Captain America” failed all three test screenings, and the studio planned further reshoots — and this three months before the release. There were also rumors about the dismissal of original director Julius Onah (at least he did not appear neither at D23 nor at D23 Brazil during the presentation of the movie).
As for Evans, it seems he is not yet done with Marvel and plans to return in new “Avengers” with Robert Downey Jr. — likely in the role of Nomad (in the 1974 comics, Steve Rogers used the identity of the character when he renounced the shield and the name Captain America). It is expected that in “Avengers,” which debuts in May 2026, Tom Holland, characters of the new “Fantastic Four,” and “Thunderbolts” will also play.
