I’ll have to officially recognize Robert Eggers as an amazing director (connoisseurs already did), after Martin Scorsese did, impressed by «Nosferatu».
In an interview with TCM, the director talked about his career, as well as the films, current and past, that have inspired him, and his love of horror films. When asked about Eggers’ latest film, the recognized classic repeated what critics and audiences have said many times before:
«It’s amazing. Anything this guy does, amazing. And that’s one [film] you don’t do much after seeing. You’re still in the world. You’re in Transylvania, and it’s really, [laughs] whoa. Man, he’s something.».
Recently, Scorsese has been «rooting» for a genre he hadn’t spent much time on before. Films like «Cape Fear» (1991), «Bringing Out the Dead» (1999) and «Shutter Island» (2010) had some horror, but he seems to prefer others to scare people in movie theaters. One famous horror that caught his attention was Ari Aster’s «Heredity» (2018), which Scorsese spoke about in 2019: «Disturbing, certainly a horror movie in that sense. But it’s more than that. It reminds me of the best horror movies».
Probably, Scorsese, along with other connoisseurs, is looking forward to the next Eggers’ film, now known as «Werewolf». In this film set in 19th century England, the director promises «the darkest thing» he has ever created. It is known that the premiere is scheduled for Christmas 2026.
