«Best Bioware game»: Dragon Age The Veilguard received 84/100 on Metacritic

Published by Ihor Panchenko

Dragon Age: The Veilguard has received the first ratings from the specialized press: the game has 84 points out of 100 on Metacritic and 83 out of 100 OpenCritic. Although the press generally liked The Veilguard, there is no consensus in the opinions: for some, it is an unsurpassed work of game art, while for others it is just a high-quality RPG without any special claims.

Critics especially praised the combat system — dynamic and exciting, forcing the player to be constantly active, especially at high difficulty levels. The game’s world and companion characters were also highly praised, as they were all vivid, charismatic, and well-developed.

However, not everyone was delighted with the gameplay of The Veilguard. У VGC noted that the game mechanics seem to be «stuck in the past» and do not offer anything radically new. The situation is similar with the storyline — reviewers’ opinions here ranged from enthusiasm to cautious approval.

Some say it’s the best installment in the Dragon Age series and possibly BioWare’s best game in general (Eurogamer). Others criticize The Veilguard for lacking narrative depth and variability compared to previous games in the series (PC Gamer). But even skeptics admit that this is at least a solid Action/RPG, albeit not without flaws.

Among other advantages, reviewers mention excellent art design, a powerful character development system, spectacular graphics, and general attention to detail. The disadvantages, in addition to those mentioned above, include the template of some elements, camera malfunctions, and rare performance drops.
