CryptoPunk #3100 owner sold his NFT at a loss of $10 million

The owner of CryptoPunks #3100 has sold his NFT for $6 million in Ethereum (4,000 ETH) at a loss, as he bought it for $16 million himself. CryptoPunk #3100, one of nine Alien Punks in a collection of 10 thousand, is the only one with a headband. The deal was private and allegedly organized by the brokerage company Fountain.

According to the CoinGecko, over the past 12 months, the price of ETH has fallen by 57%.

Although the buyer and seller have not been identified, the buyer’s wallet funded its account in the early afternoon of April 10 with 4001 ETH from an account that Ethereum blockchain researcher Etherscan identifies as «Coinbase Prime 2». The wallet has not performed any other activity on the network so far.

CryptoPunk #3100 is the top seller in the NFT’s CryptoPunks collection. Previously, it was sold for $7.58 million and $16.03 million. The latest sale is the largest since April 25, 2024.

In February, american art collective Kanbas made the most expensive NFT purchase over the past three years. A unique digital work of art called X.Masquerade by artist Sam Spratt was purchased for $3 million.
