Honda is challenging the Tesla Model Y with its new S7 electric crossover. The company claims that this car, the first in its premium electric segment, will set new standards with its comfort, modern design and, most importantly, a range of over 650 km.
Tesla Model Y competitor: what does Honda S7 offer?
The Honda S7 is the result of Honda’s cooperation with China’s Dongfeng Motor Corporation. The S7 will be available in two versions. The rear-wheel drive (RWD) version is equipped with a single electric motor (268 hp or 200 kW) and a battery with a capacity of 89.8 kWh. Honda promises 650 km of range (according to the Chinese CLTC cycle). At the same time, the all-wheel drive (AWD) version adds a second 201 hp (150 kW) motor to the front axle, bringing the total power to 469 hp (350 kW). However, due to the higher weight, the range is reduced to 620 km.
For comparison. The Tesla Model Y RWD has a range of 593 km, and the Tesla Model Y AWD Long Range has a range of 719 km (CLTC).
One of the main advantages of the S7 is the battery pack, which consists of 13 modules that can be quickly replaced individually. Honda claims that this reduces maintenance and repair costs by 80%.
In addition, the company has made the Level 2 autonomous driving system a standard feature. There is also remote parking control via smartphone.
The company’s engineers used an adaptive suspension that responds quickly to road conditions. The electric motors are tuned for smooth acceleration and braking.
S7 design and interior
The novelty uses panoramic glass that can be darkened. The second-row passengers have 859 mm of legroom. In the cabin, a leather steering wheel, a digital rearview mirror, and even a cabin aromatization system are available. For music lovers, there is a Bose audio system with 16 speakers, including speakers located in the headrests of the front seats.

Honda claims its «most powerful intelligent cockpit» with a split 12.8-inch and 10.25-inch infotainment screen and a 9.9-inch instrument cluster. Multiple screen connectivity is available through Honda Connect 4.0, which additionally supports a voice-activated AI assistant.
Also available is Honda Sensing 360+, a safety system that includes adaptive cruise control, emergency braking, lane keeping, auto-parking, and 360° cameras.
The new Honda S7 electric crossover features the exclusive Honda «H Mark» logo, which is unique to the next generation of EV models. The front Honda logo is illuminated. The car has retractable door handles and foot control of the trunk. The S7 is equipped with a 471-liter trunk and standard 19-inch wheels (21-inch wheels on the top version).
