The producers of the James Bond films have announced the casting conditions for the actor who will portray the eighth incarnation of the British secret agent.
Thus, Barbara Broccoli and Michael J. Wilson stated that the next Bond should be «a man over 30 and not necessarily white», emphasizing that ethnicity will not matter in this case. In addition, the «lucky» chosen for the role will play the character in the franchise for at least the next decade.
Speculation about the new Bond has been raging ever since Daniel Craig refused to continue the role after his appearance in «007: A Time to Die Hard» in 2021. In March, it was rumored that the agent would be played by Aaron Taylor Johnson from «Craven the Hunter», and Pierce Brosnan allegedly praised the choice.
Also, Henry Cavill is often credited with the role of the world’s most famous movie special agent. Moreover, at the beginning of the year, there was even a fake trailer of a new Bond movie with him, but the actor himself says he is too old for the role.
Meanwhile, the idea of a black Bond has been in the air for years, with Idris Elba considered the main candidate in this regard.
«Every time we cast a new actor, the movies change,», says Wilson. «Everyone who has taken on this role has offered something new and different». And Broccoli added: «Films are like a circus that comes to town. You set up your tent, everyone comes, and you create magic. The main thing is to please the audience and make sure that they didn’t spend their money in vain».
In addition to the search for the main actor, the franchise is also looking for candidates for the director’s role. According to rumors, the producers met with Steve McQueen («12 years of slavery») and tried to attract Christopher Nolan for at least two more films, but the director denied it. Zoe Saldana has also expressed interest in working on the Bond film.
