This year, Samsung started shipping its own smart ring in several sizes — but it’s not a given that any of them will work for you personally. Instead, Xiaomi plans to solve the problem with automation, which will allow the device to adjust to the size of a person’s finger. The corresponding development was noticed in patents (via 91Mobiles).
According to the document, Xiaomi will integrate an elastic element (PVC or rubber material) into the ring, which will provide a perfect «fit» and allow you to wear the device on any finger (or give it to someone).
The ring will be compatible not only with Bluetooth, but also with Wi-Fi and mobile networks (2G, 3G, 4G LTE, and 5G NR), and will have NFC and UWB, proximity, temperature, acceleration, and other sensors.
The patent suggests that the ring will have a touch area, a microphone and a small speaker for making calls, and probably Air Gesture technology to control the device with gestures.
Xiaomi is likely to provide features such as health tracking and connectivity with other devices. There is also a hint of using the ring to control the phone’s connected cameras.
