George Martin made a cameo appearance in the series «Dark Winds» to make fun of his own book, which he had been putting off for years. Actually, he was not the only star there.
As noted by Games Radar, In the first episode of the third season of «Dark Winds», we are shown Martin and Hollywood icon Robert Redford playing a chess game — behind bars and under the watchful eye of Joe Liphorn.
«George, the whole world is waiting, make a move», — Redford’s character exclaims. The prisoner, played by Martin, remains uncertain until Joe offers him a winning tactic.
Martin and Redford are the executive producers of «Dark Winds», a series adapted from Tony Gillerman’s book series that follows the various cases Joe and his fellow detective Jim Chee take on.
As for Martin, any public appearance of his now comes down to one question — when will he finish the sixth installment of «A Song of Ice and Fire»? It’s been 14 years since the last book was published, and since then we have received several statements from the writer about progressbut the latter were that he didn’t have enough time.
At the same time colleagues joke about the writer — science fiction writer Larry Correia, for example, added a dedication to Martin in the final book of the «Saga of the Forgotten Warrior» series with the words: «See? It’s not that hard».
Simultaneously with the debut of the third season of «Dark Winds», George Martin gave a comment to the publication Collider regarding «Winds of Winter», but without any specifics:
«I have to finish the books. It’s the only thing I have complete control over,» Martin says. «There are no budget constraints. There are no other studio executives I have to please, or other writers with different views. Books — that’s what I’m going to do. And I think the one I’m writing is turning out pretty well, but I’d like it to come out sooner».
