Hellcat hackers demand $125,000 in French baguettes from the company — half that if it admits to the hack

Very hungry hackers stole data from a French company Schneider Electric and want a huge amount of bread in return. They promise a 50% discount for honesty.

According to preliminary data, hackers have stolen 40 GB of data from a large French engineering group after successfully breaking into the firm’s JIRA system. The X Twitter account, believed to be affiliated with the Hellcat hacker group, mocked Schneider for the success of the recent cyberattack, and the following post in the chain shows an example of a piece of data. However, more detailed information about the nature and extent of the hack, as well as an offer of baguettes, was published on the darkweb.

If the ransom demands are not met, confidential data, including information about the company’s projects, personnel, and user data, will be made public. The hackers note that if the company publicly admits to the data leak, the amount will be halved, i.e., to $62,500. That’s still a lot of baguettes.

It is not yet known whether Schneider has met the hackers’ conditions. The company has released a statement that does not specify the scale of the hack. Bleeping Computer spoke with a hacker who said that a new hacker group called ICA has been created. It will not demand money from companies if they recognize the hack within 48 hours. However, later the group communicated on behalf of Hellcat.
