Apparently, many people have felt ashamed after watching old photos or videos. Something similar happened to Guy Pearce when he watched Christopher Nolan’s «Remember» / Memento again.
«I am having an existential crisis. I recently watched «Remember» / Memento and I’m still depressed. I am shit in this movie. I never thought about it before, but earlier this month I was answering questions about Memento and decided to watch the movie. But during the playback, I realized I hate what I did,» Pierce said in interview The Times.
The actor’s criticism has nothing to do with Nolan’s work or the quality of the movie – it was only his own performance that caused Pierce’s discomfort, which he looks at 25 years later. Many people, like the author of this news, consider the movie and the embodiment of the main character in it an absolute masterpiece, but Guy Pearce thinks it should have been better.
«John Gielgud once said: «You can be good in a good movie, good in a bad movie, bad in a bad movie, but never bad in a good movie». But I saw Memento and realized that I was bad in a good movie».
At the same time, Pierce is not so categorical about all his early works. For example, he is satisfied with Curtis Hanson’s 1997 L.A. Confidential, where he also played the lead role. As for «Remember», the actor did not tell Christopher Nolan about his current impressions, but he believes that he would have agreed.
«All that talk about the Warners CEO being the reason I didn’t work with Chris anymore? All of that is now shattered. I know why [really] I didn’t work with Chris anymore — it’s because I’m bad at Memento».
Earlier, the actor said that after the film’s release in 2000, he spoke to Nolan several times about participating in his films. But one of the Warner Bros. executives was categorically and openly against it. It seems that a quarter of a century later, the participants in this drama finally came to an agreement. We can only hope that through participation in future «Odyssey» Nolan, which is already many prominent actors are involved No one will regret it in the future.
