The «John Wick» universe is growing to insane proportions as Lionsgate has announced the development of at least two new spin-off projects.
The first one is an animated prequel film that will take place after the events of the first Vick movie in 2014. In this story, the titular assassin takes on the seemingly impossible task of destroying all his enemies in one night to fulfill his duty to the High Table.
«In both animation and the world of John Wick, the possibilities are endless,» says Lionsgate chairman Adam Fogelson. «And there’s no John Wick story that fans are clamoring for more than “Mission Impossible.”»
Keanu Reeves, who played the eponymous killer in the franchise, is expected to voice his character, while Chad Stahelski, the permanent director of the John Wick series, will join the production team.
«I’ve always been fascinated by animation, and to do John Wick in this version is a huge advancement for this story. We have the potential to expand our world, characters, and action in ways that were never imagined before,» says Stahelski.
Another side project is a spinoff about the blind assassin Kane. Donnie Yen will direct and star in the movie, while «Batman» Matson Tomlin will write the story.

Yen is best known to audiences for the films «Rogue One. Star Wars. A History», «Three X’s: Reactivation» and the live-action version of «Mulan», but his main career in Hong Kong films spans several decades. Donnie also has his own studio, which choreographs for films, and directs and produces.
«The John Wick films have set an extremely high standard for action filmmaking, and I really appreciate Lionsgate giving me the opportunity to further develop the franchise,» said Yen.
The details of the spinoff’s plot are kept secret, but apparently it will continue the story of a formidable blind killer who was forced to kill Vic against his will. Now Kane, freed from his obligations to the criminal group, will face new challenges.
The movie about Kane will be the second John Wick spinoff. The first, titled «Ballerina» and with Ana de Armas starring the title character will debut in theaters on June 6. Additionally, Lionsgate is developing series spinoff «John Wick: Under the High Table» and, in case you missed the previous news — «John Wick 5», and with Keanu Reeves in the title role. So, it seems that Kane’s task was not fully accomplished.
