Light of Motiram – a free Horizon clone? A game about robots in the form of ancient animals and people with primitive weapons

The developers have shared details about the new sci-fi adventure game Light of Motiram, which looks quite epic. Images and a teaser trailer show a post-apocalyptic world where people in primitive-style clothing fight giant dinosaur robots to the sound of majestic orchestral music. It seems to be something very familiar. But no, this is not the next Horizon installment from Guerrilla. Light of Motiram is being developed by a subsidiary of Tencent called Polaris Quest.

Guerrilla and Sony, of course, do not have a monopoly on the idea of tamed dinosaur robots or open-world games with crafting elements. But at first glance, Light of Motiram looks like an obvious copy of Horizon. It mimics the art style and animations of Guerrilla, right down to the numerous lens flares. One image shows three characters fighting with bows and spears against a mammoth-like machine. Even the logo font and the game description are reminiscent of Horizon — Light of Motiram tells the story of humanity’s attempt to recover from the dawn of a new primitive era».

To be fair, there are some differences. For example, you can build your own shelters in the game, and trained «Mechanimals» will help you in battle. There is also support for a cooperative mode for 10 players. Although Guerrilla is working on a multiplayer game, the only Horizon game that has had co-op so far was the recent spin-off Lego Horizon Adventures.

On the one hand, fans of the Horizon series will understand why these games actually look like clones. However, we have to wait to see how roughly Polaris Quest will copy Eloy’s adventures. At the moment, Light of Motiram doesn’t have a release date yet, but it looks like it will be a free-to-play game that will appear on Steam and the Epic Games Store. Unless, of course, Sony files a lawsuit against Tencent demanding to stop development.
