In the summer, Marvel announced two new movies about «Avengers» with the return of the «old» team, including directors the Russo brothers and Robert Downey Jr. This has provoked even more rumors about the return of the original cast — some of whom would not mind reprising their roles.
For example, Josh Brolin, who played Thanos in the MCU, says he is ready to return to the villain’s image if the story is right «:
«I’m not kidding — there’s something interesting about Thanos», — Brolin says in an interview Collider. «It’s like Sicario, everything has to be right. Thanos has to be true to the story if you’re going to bring him back. I would have done everything the Russo brothers would have asked».
Given Thanos’ impact on the MCU, as well as his memorable adventure after winning «Infinity War» and ultimately defeat in «Completion» — it’s clear why Brolin is taking such a balanced approach to the role. Thanos’s return seems even more realistic if we remember that one of the next films — «The Avengers: Infinity War» — will be based on the 2015 Marvel Comics storyline where different realities collide to form Battleworld (which effectively opens the door for characters from all over the multiverse to appear, even those who seem to have been defeated).
A day earlier, insider Daniel Richtman wrote that Marvel considering Gwyneth Paltrow’s return to the role of Pepper Pottsalthough he clarifies that he is not sure whether he has already had any conversations with her. This may seem like mere rumor or speculation — but remember that some preliminary ideas of the MCU, as outlined by journalists, have come true.
Recall that «Avengers: Judgment Day» will be released in theaters on May 1, 2026, while «Avengers: Secret Wars» will debut on May 7, 2027.
