Denzel Washington will return to the role of Robert McCall in at least two more films — «The Equalizer 4» and «The Equalizer 5» in the works.
«I told Sony that I would work on another “The Equalizer” — we end up doing a fourth and fifth. They want me to catch the bad guys. So just wait, I’ll be back,» Washington said in an interview with Esquire.
In the «The Equalizer» series, the actor plays former CIA operative Robert McCall, who confronts organized crime. Interestingly, in the third film, which debuted last year, the title contained the addition «Last chapter», in a way symbolizing the end of the franchise.
For Sony, Washington’s agreement to continue the work is great news, given that the previous films grossed more than half a billion dollars at the box office on an average budget.
It is not yet known whether Antoine Fuqua, who directed the previous three films, will return to work. However, the director has previously stated that he is considering artificial intelligence technologies to reduce Washington’s screen age for McCall’s origin story.
As a reminder, there is broadcast in cinemas «Gladiator 2» in which Washington played a key role — the former gladiator and now cunning ruler Macrinus (many critics in reviews of the film primarily noted the excellent performance of this actor and predicted him «Oscar»).
