Players got hold of Assassin’s Creed Shadows disks a month before the release — gameplay and spoilers are already online

Some players started sharing pictures of Assassin’s Creed Shadows disks and spreading gameplay on X (Twitter) and Reddit a few weeks before the official release.

One user posted pictures of a PS5 disk along with a screen for the installation process. The account has since deleted the post, but the screenshots are not.

At first, users reacted skeptically, but soon a video with gameplay appeared (which has also been deleted, but others have appeared). The video showed the character selection and footage of Animus Anomalies — the mechanics of disrupting historical simulation in the world of the game, familiar to fans of the series. У Reddit assumed that the leaked footage was an early version due to the lack of recent edits.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows is not the first game to be leaked. In 2020, critical spoilers were leaked The Last of Us Part II — a few months before the game’s release. Also in 2022, physical copies of God of War Ragnarok.

Ubisoft did not comment on the information about «leaks». However, the company is unlikely to be happy about unwanted spoilers and critical impressions of the game. As a rule, such mistakes occur due to logistics problems or premature sales in retail stores. Videos and photos with leaks have already begun to disappear, most likely due to complaints about copyright infringement.

Meanwhile, Assassin’s Creed Shadows is expected to be a big hit — pre-orders, as noted by journalist Tom Henderson, reached 300 thousand copies. He predicted that the game’s total sales would cross 3.5 million copies.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows will be released on March 20 on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation 5. The game costs ₴1999 to pre-order on Steam, and in Ubisoft Store — ₴1519. The developers have already presented first reviews and system requirements of the game.
