Interestingly, the final and «perfect» version of the ending for «Deadpool and Wolverine» was suggested by Ryan Reynolds’ wife Blake Lively, who probably also took on the role of Lady Deadpool.
Initially, the climax of the third act showed Deadpool and Wolverine destroying «the Timekeeper» and immediately demonstrated that they had survived. Whereas the modified version that was eventually shown in theaters, at Lovely’s suggestion, became more dramatic and added intrigue — the audience was unsure of the characters’ future: they were shown Paradox (Matthew Macfadyen) justifying himself to B-15 (Wunmi Mosaku), giving a sublime speech about self-sacrifice, and only later did the main characters appear on screen.
«The reshoots took only 1.5 days, which we are very proud of», — said Reynolds (via Games Radar). «Usually in movies like this it takes weeks. But Matthew’s speech was great».
Shawn Levy, director of «Deadpool and Wolverine», also added that Lovely’s idea added a bit of tension and the necessary excitement to the ending.
«Blake told us: “You know, I’ve been with you this whole movie, and I want to sit in fear that they’re lost somewhere. And then feel the triumph of their survival.”».
«Deadpool and Wolverine» — is the 34th MCU movie released within the 5th phase of the cinematic universe. In the plot, Wade Wilson and Hugh Jackman’s Logan confront Cassandra, the evil twin of Professor X (the movie also has a lot of interesting cameos).
For the entire rental period «Deadpool and Wolverine» earned a total of $1.3 billion (second in terms of fees in 2024 й the highest grossing movie with an R-rating) and is currently broadcasting in «digital» — in Ukraine, the movie is officially available on Megogo and Kyivstar TV, among others.
