Ahead of the release of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, Mass Effect game director and executive producer Mike Gamble spoke about «the next big BioWare game».
Controversial aesthetics The Veilguardwith stylized characters and a graphic style inspired, according to art director Matt Rhodes, by Northern Renaissance paintings and Akira Kurosawa films, has raised concerns among some about the changes in Mass Effect. Mike Gamble tried to dispel them.

«Mass Effect is photorealistic and will stay that way as long as I run it», — Gamble wrote in response to a user who begged BioWare not to use a new visual style for the game.
«Mass Effect will retain the adult tone of the original trilogy. That’s all I’m going to say right now».
BioWare first announced that it was working on a new Mass Effect game in November 2020. Later that year, it was said that several veterans of the Mass Effect trilogy had returned to work on the next installment of the series.
In July 2022, it was confirmed that experienced playwright Mary DeMarle, author of the modern Deus Ex games, had joined the studio to create a story for the next Mass Effect.
Last March, Electronic Arts announced that the Mass Effect studio team helped in the development of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, while a small core group led by Gamble continued to prepare for Mass Effect production. It is known that the next game in the series may be released no earlier than 2029.
