Valve announces 64% growth of Steam Deck and the biggest sales year in history

Valve published released its annual report Steam Year in Review 2024, which summarized its achievements for the year. The company proudly announced the best year for seasonal sales:

«In terms of seasonal sales, 2024 was the most profitable year for us: revenue grew by 10% compared to 2023».

Four big seasonal sales are always significant events that attract players with big discounts and a special page. One of them has just started right now ─ Big spring sale.

The year 2024 was also a record year for smaller but very popular themed sales dedicated to specific genres or niches. While in 2019 there were only 6 of them, this year there are already 18 themed sales planned – you’ll need a special Steam 2025 event calendar to keep track of the schedule. The closest one will be City Builder & Colony Sim Fest, which will last from March 24 to 31

Steam breaks records

2024 was a truly remarkable year for Steam – in December, the platform surpassed 39 million concurrent players for the first time, and in 2025, this figure has already exceeded 40 million. So there is no doubt that the 2025 report will again be full of positive news for Gabe Newell and the company.

The Year in Review 2024 is also interesting for information about hardware, in particular, Steam Deck. According to Valve, players spent 330 million hours on Steam Deck in 2024, which is 64% more than in 2023. This growth looks impressive for a niche that is still considered quite specific. Moreover, the popularity of Steam Deck is already beginning to influence large publishers:

In addition to Steam Deck, Valve also announced the release of SteamOS on other devices. The first will be Lenovo Go Swhich will actually become a demonstration model for future portable devices running SteamOS.

More interesting is the possibility of installing SteamOS on more powerful portable PCs, such as ROG Ally X or new MSI Claw.
