Not only a friend, but also a thief. Zhytomyr police exposed a «crypto consultant» who stole more than UAH 3.7 million from his friends. They approached him at the end of 2024 with a request to help them set up wallets. The 40-year-old IT professional took advantage of this: his friends had limited knowledge, so he easily guided them through the process. Thus, he helped a 35-year-old friend create a crypto wallet, and a 56-year-old friend recover his password.
In the process, the friend decided to transfer their funds to his addresses.
«The crypto consultant» was served a notice of suspicion of fraud, unauthorized interference with information systems and illegal actions with payment instruments. The man faces up to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.
Unfortunately, cryptocurrencies are often used for illegal transactions. There is no clear regulation of this type of asset in Ukraine. It is expected that the Verkhovna Rada will adopt the relevant draft law will consider in the first quarter of 2025 and the legalization issue will be closed by the summer. There is no exact date, but some experts expect the regulation to take effect only in 2026.
