George R.R. Martin said he did not know whether he would be able to finish «The Winds of Winter»: «Many people are already writing me obituaries»

Fans have been waiting for “The Winds of Winter” for 13 years, but George R. R. Martin hints that this wait might have been in vain.

In an interview with THR, the author of “Game of Thrones” stated that he does not know if he will ever finish the book:

“Unfortunately, I am 13 years late. Every time I think, how could I have done this? I don’t know, but it happens,” says Martin. “But it’s still a priority. Many people are already writing my obituaries and saying, ‘oh, he will never finish it.’ Maybe they are right, but I am still alive.”

“The Winds of Winter” is the sixth part of the epic fantasy series “A Song of Ice and Fire.” It is penultimate, as it was to be followed by the final book titled “A Dream of Spring,” but fans doubt whether they will even see the previous one.

Let us recall that in November 2023, Martin mentioned that he had written 1100 pages of “The Winds of Winter”, noting that the total volume of the book would reach 1500 pages. This year he acknowledged that he did not have time to write due to his excessive involvement in television projects.

Furthermore, in October, the writer announced that he plans to write another story in the “Game of Thrones” universe once he finishes “The Winds of Winter” — it will be dedicated to the city of Braavos, which has been mentioned several times in the “Game of Thrones” series (it was the location of the House of Black and White, where Arya Stark trained with the Faceless Men).

«The Knight of the Seven Kingdoms»: HBO has announced the release date of the prequel series «Game of Thrones» (and it’s coming soon)
