Ghost of Yotei — the sequel to Ghost of Tsushima — has been given a release date of October 2, 2025 exclusively on PS5. And with it, a story trailer and details about the release.
Along with the Sony release date, Sucker Punch studio released a new trailer showing the main character, new enemies, and hinting at the main plot motifs. The story of Ghost of Yotei is set in 1603 in northern Japan — in Ezzo (now Hokkaido) more than 300 years have passed since the events of the original game and in the center of the story — a woman named Atsu. The trailer tells how 16 years ago, a gang called the Six Yotei «took everything from Atsu». They killed her family and left her to die near a ginkgo tree on fire. But she survived.
«She learned how to fight, kill, and hunt», — the PlayStation blog says.
After years of training, Atsu returns home with a clear goal in mind — to destroy the Six Jotei, whose members are named Snake, Oni, Kitsune, Spider, Dragon, and Lord Saito. She hunts them down with her katana, the same one that once nailed her to a tree. But the developers promise that the game is not only focused on the classic «let’s take revenge for something bad» trope. According to Sony, Atsu will find something more than just revenge on her way. She will meet unexpected allies and gradually find a new meaning in her actions.
The gameplay promises an open-ended exploration of Ezzo with new mechanics. The trailer shows new weapons, allies, and the ability to see flashbacks. Some of the features from Ghost of Tsushima are returning, and new ones are also appearing — for example, the ability to make a fire anywhere in the game world.
Along with the announcement of the release date, pre-orders will start on May 2 at 10:00 am local time. Pre-orderers will receive an in-game mask and a set of seven PSN avatars featuring concept art of Atsu and all members of the Jotai Six.
Game editions: standard, digital and collector’s edition
The standard version of Ghost of Yotei will cost €79.99. In addition, there is a Digital Deluxe Edition with a bunch of bonuses:
- the armor of the Serpent
- alternative dye for starting armor
- unique horse color and saddle dye
- in-game amulet
- a set of golden swords
- early unlocking of Traveler cards
But the most ambitious is the collector’s edition (which is unlikely to be available in Ukraine), which includes:
- digital copy of the game
- all pre-order bonuses
- Digital Deluxe content
- Atsu’s Ghost mask (in scale, made of resin, with a stand)
- Atsu belt 71 inches long with the names of all enemies
- Atsu katana tsuba replica (7.62×7.62 cm, with stand)
- a bag of coins and rules for Zeni Hajiki (a local skill game)
- paper ginkgo tree with a wolf at the base
- a set of four art cards (belt, wolf, mask, key artwork of the game)
Sony also states that this is «the best collector’s edition they’ve ever made». Ghost of Yotei was first announced in 2024. The Sucker Punch team emphasizes that it’s a new story, a new heroine, and a new region, but with the familiar spirit of the game that fans have been appreciated since the days of Ghost of Tsushima.
