«I don’t care»: Denis Villeneuve responds to Tarantino’s opinion on movies «Dune»

Director Denis Villeneuve responded to Quentin Tarantino’s statement about the «Dune» films. Tarantino said have seen «Dune» David Lynch and don’t want to «watch it again».

Villeneuve recently participated in a Q&A session at the Mel Hoppenheim School of Cinema at Concordia University in Montreal, Canada. Among other things, he commented on Tarantino’s opinion.

«I don’t care. I agree with him that I don’t like this idea of remaking and bringing back old ideas. But I disagree that what I did was not a remake. It’s an adaptation of a book. I consider it an original, but we are very different people,» Villeneuve said.

Comparison «Dunes» Villeneuve with Lynch’s movie can confirm his answer. The 1984 film is completely different and was not a box office success, although it became a cult film. In terms of style, presentation, and story, these are completely different films, with more differences than similarities.

In a recent interview with Cahiers du Cinema, David Lynch admitted that he is still upset about his experience making «Dune» and that he is not interested in watching Villeneuve’s version:

«I will never watch it, and I don’t even want you to tell me about it».

At that time, Lynch lost creative control over «Dune» and later asked the studio to remove his name from the project, but this did not happen. Nevertheless, many people still like the film and know it, so comparisons with Villeneuve’s films cannot be avoided.
