Emma D’Arcy, who played the adult Reynira Targaryen in «House of the Dragon», said in a new interview that she had a frank conversation with Emilia Clarke (Daenerys in «Game of Thrones»), who gave her some important advice before the start of filming.
Despite the fact that the characters’ storylines unfold 200 years apart, they both represent the House Targaryen, look somewhat similar in appearance (at least in terms of their traditional hair color) and control dragons. Clarke has played the character throughout all 8 seasons of the show, so it’s no surprise that a «younger» colleague turned to her for advice.
According to D’Arcy, the conversation turned out to be quite intimate and even included a discussion of such practical things as decorating an actor’s trailer or wearing a wig on set.
«It was actually such a wonderful evening. She was extremely candid. And her advice was amazing — from some wisdom about mental change to some practical things. She said: “The trailer is your space, decorate it and use it.” We talked about the practicalities of wearing a wig every day, about the problems that can arise. I was lucky because I didn’t have the baptism of fire with some Targaryen pun that Emilia» went through.
In D’Arcy’s last sentence, as notes Screen Rant subtly hints that Daenerys had «an unnecessarily large number of intimate scenes», which probably would not have happened with the presence of special coordinators, which was eventually corrected in the prequel, given the discomfort Clarke had.
«A House of Dragons» is a prequel to the hit «Game of Thrones», based on the novel by George R.R. Martin «Fire and Blood». The plot shows the struggle of the green and black Targaryens for the throne — events that take place 200 years before the events of «Game of Thrones». So far, two seasons of the show have been released (available in Ukrainian dubbing on Megogo), but the finale of the last one did not impress fans too much: despite the fact that the episode attracted a record-breaking 8.9 million viewers for the season, his scores were the lowest for the show (criticized, among other things, the large number of protracted dialogues and intrigues along with the absence of a long-awaited naval battle).
At the same time, Martin himself criticized the show, stating in a now-deleted blog post that some of the changes introduced by the showrunners «break the logic of» the following seasons.
