The Ukrainian drone manufacturer “Wild Hornets” showed a video of, as claimed, the first use in history of a drone equipped with a machine gun in combat.
According to the comment on the video (profanity), the machine gun on the drone also protected it during the execution of the combat mission. The drone sustained bullet damage, which hit the weapon: however, the drone and the machine gun continued to function and inflict damage. Judging from the video, the operators managed to return the drone and examine the damage.
The comment states that the large Ukrainian combat quadcopter “Queen of Hornets” received the machine gun. The payload of the drone is 9.5 kg, which allows it to be equipped with various weapons with ammunition, drops, and other useful payloads. Also, the “Queen of Hornets” can carry smaller drones, which are then detached from the carrier. Another application is a signal repeater for drones, which allows increasing their radius of use.
The invention was made and tested by the military unit “Bulava” (3rd Mechanized Battalion of the Separate Presidential Brigade, named after Bohdan Khmelnytsky). Earlier, the unit equipped the “Queen of Hornets” with an RPG.
It is difficult to understand whether the Russian occupiers were eliminated as a result of the attack. The clash occurred in the landing, and the video itself is not very high quality. The comment only mentions the psychological effect: “they chased well.” It is also unknown when the combat use occurred.
