In September 2023, YouTube canceled the Premium Lite subscription in the few countries where it operated. But after the Premium price hike, it seems to be resuscitated
With YouTube’s Premium Lite subscription plan, users could enjoy an ad-free YouTube experience. The difference with Premium was that Lite didn’t offer access to YouTube Music or the ability to download videos for offline viewing.
YouTube Premium Lite became relevant again after the cost of YouTube Premium has increased in several countries, in some cases by 55%. Google is rumored to be testing YouTube Premium Lite again after seemingly canceling it last year.
John Manzano, Australian singer and songwriter, shareda screenshot of Premium Lite in Threads. The plan costs AU$11.99 per month. Some users in Germany have also noticed a YouTube Premium Lite plan — €5.99 per month. Google confirmed that this is not the Premium Lite of the past, but a test of a new plan:
«We are testing a different version of Premium Lite, and some users in Australia, Germany, and Thailand may see the option to sign up».
It is not yet known what conditions the tariff offers or the final list of regions of its distribution. It is unlikely that it will appear in Ukraine, as the cost of regular YouTube Premium in the country is much lower than in the EU or the US.
