Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two Interactive, admitted the failure of the Borderlands movie but noted the positive impact on the game’s sales. In a conversation with IGN before the announcement of the company’s quarterly results, the executive noted an unexpected effect:
«Of course, the movie was disappointing. But it even increased sales of the catalog. So there was no harm done, on the contrary — it probably helped a little. This case proves my point once again: bringing a game to the big screen is an extremely difficult task».
Take-Two confirmed in its financial report that Borderlands 4 is scheduled for release in fiscal year 2026 (April 2025 to March 2026), as well as the games Mafia: The Old Country. Grand Theft Auto 6 is still scheduled to be released in the fall of 2025, and Zelnik is confident of meeting this date. The company plans to release approximately 37 games by the end of fiscal year 2027.
Take-Two’s financial indicators show stability: net revenue amounted to $1.47 billion, with 96% coming from digital sales. Grand Theft Auto 5 has reached 205 million copies sold, Red Dead Redemption 2 — 67 million, and NBA 2K25 has sold 4.5 million copies since its release on September 3.
Take-Two reported that it earned $1.47 billion, mainly from GTA and Borderlands. Digital sales brought in 96% of the revenue. The share of digital versions of the company’s console games increased to 82%, up from 75% last year.
Take-Two also announced that it has sold its indie division Private Division to an undisclosed buyer after a long period of staff cuts and studio closures.
