The Fallout London team read the letter from the Baldur’s Gate 3 actor after a year and a half — he wanted to join

Actor Neil Newbon, who voiced Astarion in Baldur’s Gate 3, has finally joined the Fallout London mod. However, he had to wait a very long time.

In an interview with Ginx TV, Newbon mentioned how he joined the cast of Fallout London. He learned about his participation approval when “Astarion and Baldur’s Gate 3 had just had a fantastic start.” The actor had known about Fallout London for some time and had messaged the creators over a year before expressing his desire to join.

Newbon told the developers that he was a fan of Fallout, and that working on the mod for free was not an issue for him since he wanted to offer his help. However, the team took a long time to respond:

“They missed my message about a year and a half ago. Apparently, one of the guys said [to the rest of the developers]: ‘Oh, I received this message from him a long time ago on Twitter, but I don’t know who this guy is.'”

Eventually, the creators of Fallout London responded, and Newbon now says they are “very sweet, very kind.” As for the project itself, the actor says that the lack of payment did not matter to him—it was about passion, not financial reward.

“I also liked that it was a free mod. So none of us were paid. We just did it because we wanted to.”

Newbon highlighted the value of indie development and the participation of well-known actors in such projects:

“I think when actors become successful, there’s a danger that indie developers, or AA, or someone else think they can’t afford you, which is nonsense. So, you see an actor getting an award. It doesn’t mean you can’t afford them because everyone hires actors. It’s just nice to remind people that actually we do this for the craft.”

Reminder, the developers of Fallout London want to create their own studio to offset the costs of working: “Free mods don’t pay the bills.”
