Amazon Prime Video has officially confirmed work on the third season of the series «The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power» and has scheduled filming for this spring.
According to The Hollywood ReporterThe show will make a «huge» leap in time — the events will unfold in the midst of the war between the elves and Sauron, when the Dark Lord is trying to create the Ring of Power, which will give him an advantage and a chance to conquer all of Middle-earth.
The directors for the third season of «The Lord of the Rings» have also been announced: Charlotte Brandstrom, who directed two episodes of the first and five episodes of the second season (and also worked on «Shogun»), Sanaa Hamri, who directed three episodes of the second season, and newcomer Stefan Schwartz («The Boys»).
The first season of «The Lord of the Rings» remains Prime Video’s biggest television premiere to date, while the second season was the season that collected the largest number of views compared to other series’ sequels. At the same time, the second season received slightly better ratings: for example, on Rotten Tomatoes, it has 84% from critics and 59% from the audience, while the firstwere estimated at 83% and 38%, respectively.
According to Amazon, the series was watched by «170 million viewers worldwide». Earlier, the creators also stated that will shoot the show as long as it is watched by millions of viewers.
Set in the Second Age of Middle-earth (thousands of years before Frodo and the Fellowship of the Rings), «The Lord of the Rings» tells the story of how Sauron and the elves created the Rings of Power and then forged the One Ring to secretly control the others. The second season ended the bloody battle for Eregion and the loss of some characters, and at the same time revealed the mysteries that have long plagued viewers (in particular, that concerns the identity of the Stranger, but rumors about the Dark Wizard have been debunked).
