Rakuten Viber conducted a large study of Ukrainians’ attitudes toward incoming calls, involving 18 thousand respondents. According to the results, 57% of citizens don’t mind communicating by phone, while 22% are okay with calls if there was a prior agreement. At the same time, every 5th respondent prefers to send messages.
Text messaging is most often considered more convenient for communicating with colleagues or clients — 57% for messages vs. 35% for callsquestions from stores, couriers, etc. — 70% vs. 30% for calls; and other possible conversations — 78% vs. 22% for calls.
Regarding calls from companies with promotions and offers to order a service, Ukrainians were unequivocal in their responses: 80% of respondents are annoyed by these calls, while 20% said they are okay with them in case the businesses offer something really useful.
Overall, 45% of Ukrainians are neutral about calls from unfamiliar numbers, while 55% of Ukrainians are annoyed by such calls. Among the reasons for this reaction, 68% of Ukrainians said that calls from unfamiliar contacts do not bring anything useful, but only take up time. Another 18% said that they or their relatives had suffered from such calls.
Would Ukrainians like to automatically find out who is calling from an unfamiliar number? 94% of respondents answered positively: 72% — definitely yes, 19% — in some cases, and 3% — if a company calls.
40% of Ukrainians check unknown numbers: 16% search on the Internet, 13% use specialized apps, 11% use Rakuten Viber. Overall, 53% of Ukrainians have blocked unknown contacts in the last three months.
