NVIDIA GeForce RTX 50xx will be the first to get GDDR7 memory, — insider

An insider says that NVIDIA GeForce RTX 50xx graphics cards will be the first to feature the new generation GDDR7 memory. Desktop versions will exclusively use Samsung memory.

GDDR7 memory is being developed by three key players in the industry: Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron. It is likely that it is currently being mass-produced and shipped to partners. Rumor has it that NVIDIA is currently considering proposals from all three suppliers for the mobile RTX 50xx series, which is expected in the first quarter of 2025. However, desktop graphics cards will use exclusively Samsung.

“NVIDIA is the first company to implement GDDR7 in its products, and for desktop graphics cards, it has decided to exclusively use Samsung GDDR7. For laptops, NVIDIA is considering the possibility of integrating GDDR7 from Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron, but Samsung remains its main priority.”

Currently, rumors suggest that the NVIDIA RTX 50 series will come with 28 Gbps modules. However, some sources claim that the speed could reach 32 Gbps in certain variants. At least it is known that such memory has already been tested and is being produced.

Last month, Samsung introduced 24 Gbit (3 GB) modules with speeds up to 40 Gbps. The company claims that the speed can be increased to 42.5 Gbps thanks to possible future enhancements. This capacity and speed will not be used by the RTX 50 series, which will be released in early 2025. However, there is a possibility that NVIDIA will choose 3 GB modules for the Ti or SUPER upgrade, possibly also with an increase in speed.

Currently, there is no information on which memory AMD will choose for the Radeon RX 8000. Intel, according to preliminary data, has chosen GDDR6 for the Battlemage graphics cards.
