It seems that Marvel decided «not to fight superhero fatigue» — and still churn out series and movies one after the other.
«We’re going to slowly scale back and probably do two shows a year instead of four, and reduce the number of movies to two or three at most», — Disney CEO Bob Iger said about future MCU projects during his quarterly earnings report.
At the same time, 2025 does not seem to be included in these plans — according to the latest Marvel teaser, we are expecting at least 6 series in the MCU universe (it should be noted that the vast majority of them are animated). Below is a full list with release dates:
The plans for the release of the films are as follows:
The last time Marvel released this many projects in a year was in 2021, when it had just started producing television shows.
In 2023, the studio seemed to be on a roll, was going through a major crisis (mostly in terms of film projects: only «Guardians of the Galaxy 3», whereas «Marvels» and the new one «Ant-Man» not at all «didn’t take off»), which made the executives think about bringing back the old cast and reconsidering their approach to production in favor of quality rather than quantity. And if everything went well with the first one (in 2026, we are expecting to new ones «The Avengers» with Robert Downey Jr, possibly with Gwyneth Paltrow), then something goes wrong with the second, at least in terms of quantity.
At the same time, 2024 showed that the strategy of releasing fewer films seems to be working quite well — as an example, the box office results «Deadpool and Wolverine» which became the only MCU film released in 2024.
