EVOLVE PoweredBy MSI 5H+ gaming PC review: quiet, economical, productive

Fewer and fewer gamers are assembling computers by hand, because ready-made builds like the EVOLVE PoweredBy MSI 5H+ are sold at approximately the cost of the components, but are already ready to use as soon as they are taken out of the box. Traditionally, in this review, we’ll calculate how much more expensive (or cheaper) it is to buy a ready-made computer than to assemble it yourself. We also did a lot of gaming/working tests.

This is a classic mid-range gaming computer with the potential to upgrade the video card in the future. The PSU is too efficient for this build, as it will be loaded only by 30% in games. The Windows operating system is available, everything is ready to go, but you will have to look for the license key yourself.

Also, worth noting are the custom cables, which allowed us to slightly improve cable management. Another feature of this PC is a custom-made backlit ITC Community logo. Any inscription can be made to order.

Overpayment/savings on PC assembly -789

If you buy specifically from a Telemart store, the components cost more than the finished PC. The tactic of «earning money on assembly» no longer works, so stores sell ready-made computers cheaper than separately assembled ones. This does not apply to all categories of system units, but it is becoming more common.

Of course, there are many things that could be replaced here, such as using a simpler power supply, not spending money on expensive RGB-backlit case fans, doing without custom cables, etc.. But if we consider identical configurations, there are no savings for DIY enthusiasts.

Package and packaging

The computer is packed in a box from the case. Inside is an envelope with paper documentation from various components of the system unit, as well as a power cable, additional accessories (Wi-Fi antenna) to the motherboard, etc.

The inside of the system unit is stuffed with foam rubber to protect the components during transportation. It’s packed tightly, they didn’t spare any material. There is a temporary film on the glass panel of the case.

The case is well ventilated because it has four fans. The front panel has three USB Type A and no Type C. The side panel is glass, the cables are neatly laid out, and there is a backlight throughout the case, including a custom logo (in our case, ITC).

We have already reviewed the processor AMD Ryzen 5 7500F and video cards Nvidia RTX 4060so we won’t pay too much attention to it. The results of the benchmarks can be found in the table and in the screenshots.

To summarize, this is a modern gaming computer with a good potential for work thanks to the video card. With the RTX 4060, you can run local neural networks, work quickly with 3D graphics (up to three times faster than competitors), and more.

Most importantly, the processor has high performance per core, so the system feels fast overall. There are no complaints about the RAM, but the drive, when filled to 97-98%, sags in terms of write speed, sometimes significantly.

Game performance

The priority for the vast majority of computer gamers is online games with low video card requirements. These include: Dota 2, Counter Strike 2, Valorant, Fortnite, World of Warcraft, World of Tanks, Fall Guys, Minecraft, and the like. The computer can handle these projects with ease.

  • ULTRA – maximum graphics settings;
  • HIGH – high graphics settings;
  • MED – average chart parameters;
  • COMP – esports graphics parameters;
  • DQ – DLSS Quality;
  • FG – Frame Generation;
  • RT – Ray Tracing;

In Full HD, DLSS was not enabled, but when switching to Quad HD with this technology, the frame rate almost did not drop, and the image quality improved. In some games, we ran into CPU capabilities, but there were few of them, as we mostly tested video card-demanding projects.

EVOLVE PoweredBy MSI 5H+ can handle Black Myth Wukong, Alan Wake 2, Cyberpunk 2077, Robocop, Starfield, Battlefield 2042, Delta Force, and Forza Horizon 5 «flies» with ultra graphics. If desired, the video card can be overclocked a little more (+2-3% performance), as temperatures allow.

Energy consumption, heating, noise

Under maximum load, the computer consumes 205-210 watts in benchmarks. Interestingly, power consumption in demanding video games is the same. During light office tasks, the wattmeter shows 70-75 watts, as well as when watching 4K videos on YouTube. In idle mode (desktop), the computer needs 65-70 watts, which is a lot.

The reason for this is the large number of fans and RGB lighting throughout the case, as well as the AMD platform itself, which, although economical under high load, takes more power than Intel when idle.

The noise level is low, within 42-47 dB directly near the case itself. A meter and a half away, this figure drops to 37-40 dB. When idle, the case fans are barely audible, the video card is very quiet, and the noisiest component is the CPU cooler.

Temperature performance is excellent, considering the room temperature of 28 °C. The processor heats up to 70 °C according to the sensors. The pyrometer can detect up to 50 °C on the drive heatsink (it heats up the most in the system), 40-45 °C in the motherboard power supply area, and 45-49 °C on the video card.

Software

EVOLVE PoweredBy MSI 5H+ comes with Windows 11 preinstalled, but not activated. There is also a live wallpaper program that regularly loads the system by 3-5%, which increases power consumption. Its usefulness is questionable if you are not an aesthete. A small instruction in the form of a video is also downloaded to the desktop.

There is also a problem with the backlight synchronization. It seems to work well, everything is in the same color, but the lower ITC Community logo changes color with a slight delay, about 500-1000 ms.

Experience of use

EVOLVE PoweredBy MSI 5H+

It’s nice when a computer works on the principle of «take it out of the box, plug it in and work». That’s exactly what EVOLVE PoweredBy MSI 5H+ is. It’s a classic build with a less than perfect balance, but with some prospects for upgrading.

It’s also nice to see the OS, even if it’s not activated. This does not affect the cost of the computer, but it makes it possible to work immediately, although the Windows activation watermark will appear over time.

During the week of active use of EVOLVE PoweredBy MSI 5H+, there were no problems and the transition from AMD Ryzen 9 7900 + RX 7900 XTX to this computer was painless, absolutely painless. Only in the most difficult tasks did I feel that the PC optimized and watermarked 50 photos in 20-22 seconds instead of 15 seconds, which is not a problem at all.

Price and competitors

Cost EVOLVE PoweredBy MSI 5H+ is almost 48,000 hryvnias. If you look hard enough, you can find models with identical gaming performance for less money, but without RGB backlighting, a simpler case, and a good 400-450W PSU.

Artline Gaming DRGN with similar equipment costs from 49000 UAH. Alternative configuration Artline Gaming D31 based on Intel Core i5-13400F costs less, although the platform is based on DDR4.

Vinga Rhino D81 is similar to the hero of the review and sells for 48,000 UAH. If you search, you can find compromise options for 50 thousand hryvnias based on RTX 4060 Ti, for example, Artline Gaming X47.

It's a good option for the money, but only if you want to have a reserve for upgrades.

Conclusion:

Due to the less than ideal balance of components, the EVOLVE PoweredBy MSI 5H+ has some upgrade potential. So, we can't say that there is any overwhelming predominance of components over each other, except for the PSU, which can be connected to even a Radeon RX 7900 XTX.

For gamers, especially those with Full-HD monitors, this is a great option. Popular online games run with ease, showing better performance than any laptop for 50-55 thousand hryvnias, but will EVOLVE PoweredBy MSI 5H+ be of interest to Ukrainian gamers now?

Despite its advantages, this system unit costs a lot, for this money you can buy a less productive laptop, but with half the power consumption and the ability to work from the battery. So it is still a compromise option exclusively for fans of computer video games, especially eSports.
