Acer announces 10% increase in laptop prices due to Trump’s tariffs

The head of Acer announced a 10% increase in prices for goods subject to the new duties. We should also expect a rise in the price of technology products from other companies.

As reported by Taiwan Economic Dailyreferring to the Daily Telegraph, in an interview with the British press, Acer CEO Chen Junsheng announced plans to raise prices for imports subject to «tariffs» the US administration. According to preliminary estimates, new Acer laptopsdevices manufactured in China and sold in the United States may increase in price starting in March. It is also likely that the devices sold in the United States will be manufactured by OEM partners outside of mainland China.

Acer is already moving the assembly of its desktop computers outside of China, and the company is also looking for supply chains outside of China. According to the CEO, manufacturing in the United States is also an option.

The CEO noted that prices for end users should be adjusted in accordance with the duties. The 10% increase is directly related to the tariffs on China, but does not take into account other factors that may also affect the price. Chen Junsheng says that in the short term, Acer still has stocks in the United States to cope with the duties, but they will eventually affect the price of goods for consumers.

Acer is the fifth best-selling computer brand in the United States, ahead of HP, Dell, Lenovo, and Apple. The company sells laptops, video cards, motherboards, etc. in the country. Therefore, the expected increase in their cost will be an additional burden to the price increase caused by shortage of NVIDIA video cards. After Chen Junsheng’s announcement, Acer’s stock price rose.

According to the publication, the industry expects brands such as Asus, Dell, and HP to raise prices later. On February 17, Asus announced that it has developed a plan to strengthen supply chain resilience, reduce the impact of external factors, increase attention to changes in cost structure, maintain operational flexibility, and strive to provide the best price and customer experience.

The price increase is primarily affecting the US. The cost of computers and components in other countries depends on how Acer and other brands are going to offset the burden of the increased business.
