Adobe opens free access to Firefly Video — an AI generator that turns text into video

In almost a year after the announcement Adobe launches Firefly video generator in a public (and free) beta version.

The video generator will be available in new web program Firefly, which essentially gathers «all of Adobe’s AI tools under one roof» including the text-to-picture image generator.

Starting today, Firefly also offers two subscription options:

  • Firefly Standard — for $9.99 per month (2000 credits for audio and video)
  • Firefly Pro — $29.99 per month (7000 credits)

Firefly Video is Adobe’s answer to the need for Sora by OpenAI which can convert text or images to video, or even translate audio or video into different languages. At the same time, it is worth noting here that Adobe stands out in the artificial intelligence market because it strictly protects the rights of authors — the Firefly generator was trained only on licensed content.

Text in the video

Users enter a specific prompt into a text box, which is then converted to a five-second video clip in 1080p resolution. This feature includes Adobe’s signature easy-to-use interface with a drop-down menu that allows creators to customize aspects such as frame size, camera angle, and more.

Images in the video

Adobe positions this feature as a kind of brainstorming tool for video editors. It works similarly to «Text in Video», except that the user can add a text hint and an image at the same time to bring a particular frame to life.

Video translation

The option is currently available for 20 languages and, according to Adobe, can help creators reduce the cost of translation and dubbing services.
