In addition to iOS 18 Apple has also officially announced macOS 15 Sequoia. One of the most notable innovations in this OS is Apple Intelligence, a set of AI functions that work on iPhone, iPad, and iOS.
Among the features mentioned at WWDC: The OS will be able to manage your notifications, summarize text in emails and other apps, and automatically draft responses to emails. Siri will now be able to act for you in apps and get contextual information based on your personal information — all with voice commands. Apple Intelligence will be available «this summer» with the Sequoia beta, and requires an M1 processor or later.
Mac also gets iPhone mirroring, which lets you control your phone from your Mac. You’ll receive phone notifications on your Mac, as well as audio transfers. While using iPhone Mirroring, your iPhone remains locked, even in standby mode.
Apple has also updated its Safari browser with a number of new features. Among them are highlights, which use machine learning to identify interesting things on a page, and additions to the reading mode, including summaries and tables of contents, presumably also created using machine learning. The browser also has a mode for viewing video content on a page.
Keychain is getting an update with a new cross-platform Passwords app that can store many new types of credentials, including Wi-Fi passwords, access keys, verification codes, and shared passwords. It will be available on iOS, iPad, Mac, visionOS, and Windows.
In MacOS 15 Sequoia, Apple is finally introducing automatic windowing for mosaics.
The developer beta of MacOS 15 Sequoia is available today, and the public beta will be available in July. The final version will be released in the fall of 2024.
