At an event at the White House where President Donald Trump promised to buy a Tesla car, he also said that violence at the company’s facilities would be considered an act of domestic terrorism.
In recent weeks, protests against Elon Musk, Tesla’s CEO and head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), have escalated. For example, there have been reports of a shooting near a Tesla car dealership and acts of vandalism against the company.
In response to a journalist’s question whether the attackers on Tesla dealerships should be recognized as domestic terrorists, Trump (standing next to Musk) said the following:
«I will do so. I will. I will stop them. If we catch someone… Because they’re hurting a big American company.»
«We already know who some of them are, and we’re going to catch them,” Trump added.
In response to these statements, representatives of the Tesla Takedown movement wrote on their Bluesky account:
«We are a non-violent public protest movement. We condemn violence and destruction of property. Peaceful protest in public places is not domestic terrorism. They are trying to intimidate us. We will not allow it».
The statement also reads:
«It is ironic that Donald Trump wants to call our peaceful movement domestic terrorism. This is the same man who sent an aggressive mob to the Capitol to steal an election he lost and then pardoned more than 1,600 rioters who were convicted by juries of serious crimes against the United States».

It’s worth noting that Trump fulfilled his promise and actually purchased a red Tesla Model S electric car. He noted that this car will remain in the White House and will be used by government officials.
