At the Paris Motor Show 2024, the BYD company officially presented a new electric car, the Sealion 7, for the European market. Previously, this crossover was sold only in China.
Sealion 7 — is the first model built on the BYD 3.0 Evo electric platform. It promises improved efficiency and performance, in particular thanks to the «12 in 1» electric drive system. The car (at least the Chinese version) offers two battery options: 72 kWh and 81 kWh. The larger battery provides a range of 610 km on the CLTC cycle. On the European website of the automaker, the battery capacity is indicated as «to 91.3 kWh».
Fast charging reaches a capacity of 230 kW and restores the battery reserve from 10% to 80% in 25 minutes. The all-wheel drive version with two motors accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds and has a top speed of 215 km/h.
The interior is characterized by minimalism. At the same time, the BYD Sealion 7 is equipped with a large 15.6-inch rotating touchscreen. The dimensions of the Sealion 7 are 4830 mm in length, 1925 mm in width and 1620 mm in height, making it comparable in size to the Tesla Model Y.
The Sealon 7 is expected to hit European roads by the end of this year. Although European prices have not been officially announced, the starting price in China is 189,800 yuan (approximately €24040).
At the Paris Motor Show 2024, BYD also showed the U8, a rugged SUV from its luxury sub-brand Yangwang, and the BYD Seal sedan. Both of these vehicles are also entering the European market and will make their debut in France. Other models on display include the Dolphin, Atto 3, and Seal U.
BYD’s rapid expansion in Europe is part of the company’s larger global strategy. The cars are currently available in 95 countries and regions around the world. In September 2024, BYD sold 419,426 vehicles (electric and hybrid), up 45.91% year-on-year. Sales abroad accounted for 33,012 of them, up 17.74% year-on-year.
