CD Project Red has officially confirmed that Geralt will appear in the new game of The Witcher series. This was announced by the studio’s representatives reported to IGN.
«Geralt will appear in the game, but we don’t want to reveal the details of his role. For now, you’ll have to wait to find out more», — Project RED CD said.
According to game director Sebastian Kalemba and executive producer Gossi Mitrenga, the idea has been in the works for a decade. В PC Gamer interview Kalemba explained why Tsiri would be the main character:
«I remember discussions after Wild Hunt came out about how it was a natural way for her to —present herself…it was a very natural choice for us,» Kalemba said, recalling her importance to Geralt and her close ties to Caer Morin. — There is a lot of room for her and for us to develop [her story]. There are so many possibilities for exploration, and because she is such a multifaceted character, the beginning of her journey gives us freedom and a lot of room for development».
Mitrenga added that the decision to make Ciri the main character had been ripe even earlier: «We talked about this when we were making The Witcher: Wild Hunt, she was already a playable character there, right? So it was a natural choice». It also emphasized the character’s potential: «She’s also younger, there’s a lot more to her — we know her story, but she’s less defined as a character because of [her age], because she’s less experienced, and because she’s such a passionate personality».
«Because she cares so much, it gives us, as creators and players, an incredible opportunity to experience more uncertainty and more surprises with this character,» Mitrenga added.
At the same time, Kalemba assured me that Geralt would not just be vacationing in Tucson:
«He is extremely important to us and to Ciri, and he will definitely appear in the game. I can’t tell you more, but I think that promise is enough. We believe that this journey, this new saga, this new trilogy is definitely about her».
Trailer
The game’s trailer, which was presented at The Game Awards 2024, features the voice of actor Doug Cockle, who voiced Geralt in the previous installments of the series.
