Charli XCX to play the White Witch in «The Chronicles of Narnia» Greta Gerwig, — Deadline

It looks like «The Chronicles of Narnia» Greta Gerwig has found an actress to play one of the key characters — and it’s the English singer Charlie XCX (Charlotte Emma Aitchison).

Publications Deadline suggests that Charli XC will play the role of the main villain in the upcoming films — the White Witch or Jarvis (as she was called in the prequel to the events of the first book called «The Wizard’s Nephew»), who in the 2005 film «The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe» was played by Tilda Swinton.

Netflix first announced the creation of a new series of films based on C.S. Lewis’s books in 2018, and in 2022, they introduced the director — author of the hit «Barbie» Greta Gerwig, who will direct at least two films.

Although filming is set to start this summer, it is still unknown which part Gerwig will adapt first — but rumor has it that the streaming service is set to adapt all seven stories, so we can assume that it is «The Wizard’s Nephew», which actually tells the story of the creation of Narnia.

As for the actors, Natalie Portman and Mikey Madison were allegedly considered for the unnamed main roles (yes, from the same «Anora»), as well as Saoirse Ronan and Louis Partridge (but the rumors have not yet been confirmed), while casting for children’s roles is currently underway.

The story of Narnia has been adapted into films many times: it all started with the 1979 animated series and continued with the trilogy of «live» films from 2005-2010, which earned a total of $1.5 billion at the box office. A fourth film, based on the novel «The Silver Chair», was also planned, but due to the loss of rights, it was canceled.

The films from the new version are also to receive an exclusive a two-week run in Imax before debuting on Netflix.
