Christopher Nolan’s next movie — adaptation «Odyssey» Homer

The premiere is scheduled for July 2026.

Christopher Nolan will adapt the poem «Odyssey», which was written by Homer around the eighth century BC. This was announced by Universal Pictures, which will be responsible for the worldwide distribution of the film. The director of «Interstellar» and «Batman» will not only direct the film, but also write the script.

«Christopher Nolan’s new film The Odyssey — is a mythical action epic that is being shot around the world using the new IMAX technology. The film will be the first to present Homer’s legendary saga on IMAX screens and will be released on July 17, 2026», — said Universal Studios at X (Twitter).

The cast was joined by Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Robert PattinsonLupita Nyong’o and Charlize Theron.

The ancient Greek poem tells the story of King Odysseus of Ithaca and his dangerous journey home after the Trojan War. The plot includes the hero’s encounters with the cyclops Polyphemus, sirens and the sorceress Circe.

The epic poem has been adapted for the screen many times. In 1954, the movie «Ulysses» starring Kirk Douglas was released. The «Odyssey» also inspired the Coen brothers to create the film «Oh, Where Art Thou, Brother» (2000). The story of the Trojan War was told in the movie «Troy» (2004), where Brad Pitt played Achilles and Sean Bean — Odysseus. According to the director of «Troy», Wolfgang Petersen, Nolan was among the candidates for the director’s chair of this film even before the shooting of «Batman: Dawn».

2024 was a special year for the director. For the first time in his long career, Nolan received «Oscars» for Best Picture and Director for «Oppenheimer». And last week, King Charles III knighted him in a ceremony.
