The director of the «Dune» trilogy is considering an ambitious sci-fi project, the script for which has already been written by Eric Roth. Denis Villeneuve has long wanted to make this adaptation.
Denis Villeneuve’s script for the adaptation of Arthur C. Clarke’s «Dating Rama» is already ready. After «Dune», this is the most interesting project of the director, who to some extent already specializes in science fiction.
«Villeneuve’s long-negotiated adaptation of Clarke’s novel — is a damn ambitious project that deals, as Roth recently said, with «space and time». Villeneuve has been attached to «Rama» before any other project he has developed», — writes World of Reel.
«Arthur C. Clarke’s novel «Rendezvous with Rama is being adapted for the screen». Similar to «2001: A Space Odyssey», it’s about astronauts coming into contact with another civilization. It’s a study in which we work with technologies that can actually exist in the future, unlike «Dune», which leans more towards fantasy. It would be the first time I’ve been able to work on hard science fiction. I’d like to do it at least once in my life»,” Villeneuve says in an interview.
«Rendezvous with Rama», which Villeneuve previously described as «Arrival» on steroids, tells the story of a team of astronauts who go on a mission to explore a giant interstellar spaceship hurtling toward the sun. Soon Denis Villeneuve will start filming «Dune: The Messiah». What is he working on will work after that, it is not known for sure.
