But the director Alex Proyas was also reminded that he did not invent everything himself.
Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, presented new prototypes of robots, an unmanned robotaxi (Cybercab) and an autonomous Robovan. Social media users noticed a striking resemblance between the design and the futuristic mechanisms from Alex Proyas’ 2004 movie I, Robot.
«Hey, Ilona, could you please return my designs to me?» — the director wrote on X (Twitter).
Hey Elon, Can I have my designs back please? #ElonMusk #Elon_Musk pic.twitter.com/WPgxHevr6E

However, X users were quick to point out the irony of the situation. They pointed out that Proyas himself had drawn inspiration from other sources when creating «Me, Robot». In particular, they mentioned the locomotive «Mercury» Henry Dreyfus and aesthetics of the designer’s work Sid Meade known from the movies «Blade Runner», «Aliens», and «Tron».
Some commentators went even further, reminding us that the movie itself «I, Robot» based on a collection of short stories by Isaac Asimov, published in 1950. They criticize the film for turning Asimov’s deep philosophical reflections on the interaction between humans and robots into a typical Hollywood action movie with chases and shootouts.
The film «I, Robot» starring Will Smith tells the story of Chicago in 2035, where humanoid androids perform public services. The plot revolves around an investigation into the suspicious suicide of the founder of U.S. Robotics.
The presentation of Tesla «We, Robot» took place at Warner Bros. in Burbank, California (USA). Musk demonstrated Optimus robots, managed by people in real time. The main event was the presentation of Cybercab — a taxi without a steering wheel and pedals. Also presented were Robovan — an autonomous vehicle for the transportation of up to 20 people or cargo.
