Gamers suspect that Elon Musk is not playing fair — in Path of Exile 2, he acted like a newbie with a leveled character

Elon Musk likes to boast that he is the best in online games. However, other players suspect that something is off. In his recent Path of Exile 2 streams, he behaved completely incompetently.

The point is that Musk, who had a top-leveled character, acted in the game like a newbie and even killed his character carelessly in hardcore mode. He was on low-level maps, as if bragging that he got there himself, picking up trivial loot, bypassing really valuable stuff. Observers got the impression that the billionaire was playing a character that someone else had leveled for him (usually done for money) and had no clue what to do with it.

On January 7th, Musk conducted an hour-long stream of Path of Exile 2 on X. At first glance, Musk is the best: his character Percy_Verence is in the top ranks in “Hardcore” mode — if he dies, he dies forever. But many in the community felt from his behavior that Musk simply pays someone else for leveling. Experienced players immediately noticed that Musk seemed to have no idea what he was doing. At the same time, he was controlling a 97th level character ranked 12th in hardcore.

“Let me try to give you a quick understanding of how hard it is to reach such a level. In two weeks of the league, when people play the game, not sleeping for 40-50 hours, playing only Path of Exile, the most hardcore guys in the world, the highest-ranked players in Hardcore Trade League, were at level 93. Every time you level up, gaining experience becomes exponentially harder. To reach level 97, you need to play every day for most of the day,” explains YouTuber Quin69TV.

The vlogger demonstrated that Musk apparently had problems navigating in the game. For a while, he “sat there like an old man, clicking on this thing, expecting something to happen,” but then realized his mistake.

Also, Musk blatantly did not understand the loot. Once during a battle with a boss, Musk ran past a “chaos orb,” which is very valuable, but instead picked up “cards,” which are worthless for high-level characters.

Musk, for some reason, repeatedly visited low-level maps, typically used for grinding and farming experience. It seemed like he was trying to convince viewers that he was doing something really challenging.

“He’s just bad with this character. Whoever is piloting this account behind the scenes and enhancing it, lets Elon walk these really simple maps, where even he can get away with not being punished,” claims another YouTuber, penguinz0.

“Honestly, I don’t think Elon Musk ran this campaign,” adds Quin69TV.

Ultimately, Percy_Verence, being at level 97 in hardcore, suddenly and senselessly died on January 10th. Observers felt it was due to Musk’s overconfidence and incompetence.

“He was probably provoked by all these taunts, which is why he tried to actually play the character for about five minutes. He can just buy another one,” jokes a Reddit user.

“Being the richest person on Earth and at the same time the saddest loser on Earth is a weird combination,” added one of the commentators.
