An insider reports on the casting of actors for Sony’s upcoming game. Their background reveals the possible setting of the next God of War.
According to a post on Patreon by insider Daniel Richtman, Sony is casting actors from the Middle East for an unidentified AAA game that «is likely to be the next God of War in the [Egyptian mythology] setting».
Exploring Egyptian mythology would be a logical next step for God of War. The series started with Greek mythology, the atmosphere of ancient Egypt would be natural for Kratos and now Atreus. The Egyptian myths about life, death, and the afterlife are perfectly consistent with the path of Kratos.

Players could meet Anubis, the god of death, or Set, the god of war, who challenge the heroes. In ancient Egypt, they believed in the «scales of justice», which in the afterlife weighed the hearts of the dead with the feather of Maat, the goddess of truth and justice, to see if they were worthy of entering the realm of the dead.
Egypt opens up the possibility of creating a prequel. According to the comic book series God of War: Fallen God, which is considered canon, Kratos has been there before. Although the comics did not have such a coherent and deep story, they show how Kratos communicated with the Egyptian god Thoth during his short stay in Egypt.
Santa Monica Studio’s interest in Egypt is not new. Creative director Corey Barlog said in a documentary about the games that the studio was initially considering an Egyptian setting for the 2018 relaunch. There were initial concepts like Kratos exploring Egypt’s deserts and ancient cities, but in the end, the team chose Norse mythology because of its stronger thematic focus.
