Google Chrome adds tools to control «gluttonous» tabs and improve browser performance

Google has launched Performance Detection in Chrome, which will help identify performance issues and show tabs that «consume» the most memory.

With this feature, notifications will appear in the browser (next to your profile photo) — in the form of a tiny image that looks like a speedometer. When you click it, you’ll see a list of tabs that are using too many resources, along with suggestions to «Reject» or «Fix now».

Google has also updated Memory Saver, which offers operating modes for «voracious» tabs: «Moderate» (interprets issues and manages tabs for you), «Balanced» (works based on system needs and your habits), and «Maximum» (deactivates tabs as soon as you stop using them).

You can check the new settings in the three-dot menu in the upper right corner of Chrome: click «Settings» and select «Performance», where you should see a new toggle «Performance Alerts» (possibly later).
